Bullish vs Bearish Candles
Candle color and body size help tell whether buyers or sellers dominated a time period, but context still matters.

Color tells the story at a glance
In candlestick charts, a candle's color and body size help you see which side had more control during that time period. A bullish candle usually means buyers were stronger, while a bearish candle usually means sellers were stronger.
The short answer
Bullish candles close higher than they open. Bearish candles close lower than they open. But the real meaning improves when you look at trend, volume, and where the candle sits on the chart.
Bullish vs bearish
The body is the battle
Bullish candle
The close is above the open. It often shows buyers are pushing price upward and regaining control.
Bearish candle
The close is below the open. It often shows sellers are taking control and forcing price lower.
Body size and wicks
Not all candles are equal
Long bullish body
A strong move upward with confident buying pressure during the period.
Short body
The price changed little, which may suggest a weak or indecisive move.
Long upper or lower wick
Price extended beyond the body before closing back toward the middle, often showing rejection or uncertainty.
Quick example
A simple candle test
This candle is Bullish because the close is above the open. The body size is ₹8.00.
Key points
What to remember
- A bullish candle closes above its open and often reflects buying strength.
- A bearish candle closes below its open and often reflects selling pressure.
- Long bodies suggest stronger conviction than short bodies.
- Long wicks may show price rejection, indecision, or volatility.
- Color matters, but trend, support, resistance, and volume add context.
- Candles are clues, not promises of future price direction.
